Links on bit.ly cannot move
A bit.ly link belongs to Bitly. It keeps resolving while your account is active, and no provider can take it over. Anything already printed or embedded stays where it is.
Links on your own domain can
If your short links run on a domain you own, switching is a DNS change plus recreating the aliases. The URLs your audience has stay valid.
History stays behind
Analytics belong to the platform that recorded them. Export what you need before cancelling anything, and expect a fresh baseline.
A practical order
- Point a custom domain at Planck and recreate your active links there.
- Move new campaigns over first and leave old links running in parallel.
- Export the analytics you want to keep.
- Only then decide whether the old subscription is still worth keeping.
When Bitly is the better choice
Some of these will apply to you, and it is cheaper to find out now than after a migration.
- You need SSO, group permissions or a contractual uptime guarantee. Those are enterprise requirements and Bitly sells an enterprise product.
- Your existing links live on bit.ly and cannot be reprinted or reissued.
- Your organisation already has procurement, security review and invoicing set up with them.
- You depend on an integration built specifically against their API.
Planck is a smaller product. It competes on price and on bundling landing pages and QR codes into the same plan, not on enterprise procurement.
